Bernard Baudry 2021 Les Granges Chinon

2021 Les Granges Chinon

Bernard Baudry

Loire Valley, France | $36.00

Baudry is a modern icon leading a new approach in Chinon driven by purity. Described by Kermit Lynch as “unquestionably one of Chinon’s most outstanding producers,” Bernard Baudry rose to prominence for making terroir-driven wines using classic techniques. Organic farming. Indigenous yeasts. No new oak. Little to no filtering.

From 34-37 year-old Cabernet Franc vines grown on sand and pebbles, Les Granges is a light, fresh style of Chinon. In part, that's thanks to the light, well-draining soils, but also the use of concrete, which puts the focus on the bright, fresh fruit and striking aromatics.

Tasting Note

There's a beautiful interplay here between the fresh red fruit aromas, savoury complexity, and floral aromatics. It shows vibrant raspberry, along with crushed black pepper, liquorice, and rose. Juicy, supple, and pure, this is at its best with a light chill.
