One of the Okanagan's newest projects, Apara was founded by two friends, Nav and Andreas, who first met while working at a winery in West Kelowna over a decade ago. In 2019, they decided to pursue their dream of creating their own wine label.
In less than two years, in 2021, they acquired a prime site in Okanagan Falls, which they transformed into a vineyard. The following year, they planted over 5,700 vines. That same year, they also purchased fruit to produce their first wine, including this Syrah.
Tasting Note
This underwent three days of carbonic fermentation followed by 18 days of whole-cluster maceration. It was then aged for six months in neutral French oak, before being bottled unfined and unfiltered. It's a juicy, spicy expression of Syrah, combining bright brambly fruit accented by stemmy spices and white pepper. It's appealingly light and crunchy, reflecting not only the cooler 2022 vintage but the winemaking philosophy of Nav and Andreas.
