Oregon’s Chardonnay renaissance began quietly with the introduction of Dijon clones to the Willamette Valley almost 30 years ago. Now after decades of site development and evolving winery practices the subtlety and intensity of Oregon’s best Chardonnays clearly differentiates them from the crowded West Coast competition. The cool-climate Willamette Valley, which produces 83% of the state's Chardonnay, shows a fresher side of the variety, which has made it a worthy rival to neighbouring California.
When Susan Sokol and Bill Blosser planted their first vines in the Dundee Hills AVA, there was no established wine industry in Oregon. Their vision and perseverance laid the foundation for what has since become one of the most prestigious wine regions in the U.S. Today, their children continue to lead the winery, advancing its sustainable practices, and expanding their vineyard holdings.
Tasting Note
The Evolution Chardonnay is predicated on lees rather than wood. It is all florals and fresh fruit on the nose, with notes of yellow pear, peach, and lemon. The palate is nicely balanced, with crisp, juicy acidity and a slightly bitter lemon rind finish. It offers very good flavour intensity and length. A concept well rendered.
Food Pairing
Chicken curry, halibut.
