Lake Breeze Albariño 2024

2024 Albariño

Lake Breeze

Ancient Lakes, Columbia Valley | $29.99

The MacIntyre family purchased the Lake Breeze property in 2001. The promising young winemaker inspired the MacIntyres to invest extensively and pour their hearts into this wild wine venture. Since 1995, Garron Elmes has deftly spearheaded the Lake Breeze wines, taking them from humble beginnings to full potential. Arriving from Capetown with diplomas in both enology and viticulture, Garron was the first South African winemaker to put down roots in the Okanagan.

The Lake Breeze Albariño 2024 was crafted on the Naramata Bench with fruit from the Ancient Lakes appellation, located within the Columbia Valley region of central Washington state. The Ancient Lakes' fine sandy soils along with silt and sandy loam are perfectly matched with Albariño. Large diurnal swings help lock in acidity, something we love about wines from the Naramata Bench.

Named after a series of thirty-five lakes that dot the area, the Ancient Lakes of Columbia Valley is one of Washington’s more northerly appellations. The region is situated at a higher elevation than its neighbors, resulting in naturally cooler temperatures ideal for white wines. In fact, this is one of the only appellations in Washington that’s planted to more white varieties than red.

Tasting Note

This is a bright, vibrant Albariño with aromas of white flowers, citrus, green apple, stone fruit and a subtle minerality. The palate is crisp and clean with thrilling acidity, and hints of salt flakes, melon and pear on the palate.

Food Pairing

A salad with salty feta and fresh, leafy herbs will be fantastic alongside Lake Breeze’s bright 2024 Albariño. The feta will bring enough creaminess to ground this pairing while the herbs will play off of this Albariño’s inherent freshness.
