Château de Corcelles Beaujolais Blanc 2023

2023 Beaujolais Blanc

Château de Corcelles

Beaujolais, France | $38.99

Château de Corcelles was partially listed as a historic monument on February 4, 1927 but its history dates back much further, all the way to the Middle Ages. Neighboring the city of Lyon, the capital of gastronomy, this medieval fortress is nestled in the dreamy wine-growing region of Beaujolais. Spared by the French Revolution, the 17th century winery is still standing, although it’s seen a number of restorations.

The Richard family's purchase in 1984 brought modernization along with a renewed sense of artisanship to the chateau. Château de Corcelles has has committed themselves to sustainable initiatives. The estate received Terra Vitis certification in 2019 and the High Environmental Value (HVE) label in 2020 for its choices in crop protection, water management and its particular attention to biodiversity protection.

This Beaujolais Blanc is produced from Chardonnay blocks planted on 17 acres of vines around the château in the Pruzilly and Corcelles areas of Beaujolais. The clay-limestone soil helps retain water during droughts while filtering excess water during intense periods of rain — particularly helpful during a challenging growing season like 2023. In the cellar, the vinification was temperature controlled in order to ensure slow fermentation, bringing roundness and complexity to the finished wine. While Beaujolais is famed for Gamay, the real discovery from this region is an elegant white like this Château de Corcelles Beaujolais Blanc. It’s what collectors are quietly seeking out, hoping not to alert the masses of these rare, stunning white wines.
