Lake Breeze 2020 Syrah

2020 Syrah

Lake Breeze

Okanagan Valley, BC | $33.50

This wine has been sneaky good – and we mean really good – for a number of years now. And people have caught on. It’s difficult to get your hands on a bottle because it sells out so quickly, so we’re thrilled to have landed a few cases.

I first tasted the 2018 vintage at the WineAlign Awards a couple of years ago. It ended up winning a gold medal, and it stood out to me for its enticing floral aromatics and purity of fruit. If anything, the 2020 vintage is even better.

In the Okanagan, "entry-level" Syrahs can often be my preferred bottlings. They're less showy – less extracted, less oaky – and more elegant, with a distinctiveness that makes them incomparable to any other winegrowing region.

Tasting Note

This is everything you want in a bottle of Okanagan Syrah: a stunning, perfumed nose of violets, mouth-coating brambly fruit, and layers of heady spices. It's so complex and pure, with the balanced ripeness characteristic of the 2020 vintage. As a result, it manages to maintain a beautiful freshness even with the level of fruit ripeness evident here, with a suave polish to the tannins that makes it tempting to open sooner than you probably should.
