Di Majo Norante

Biferno, Italy | $29.40

Di Majo Norante is located in the Molise region of Italy, next to Abruzzo along the Mediterranean coastline. Grapes have been grown at the estate since the 19th century, and the winery got its start in 1968. The focus here is on making authentic Mediterranean wines using traditional winemaking practices.

Ramitello – which takes the name of the estate vineyard from which it is sourced near the town of Campomarino – is a sun-soaked Mediterranean blend of Montepulciano and Aglianico. The former is most commonly associated with Abuzzo – it helps when the grape variety is in the name of the DOCG – but further south in Molise it produces wines with a notch more ripeness.

Tasting Note

This 80/20 blend of Montepulciano and Aglianico shows bold, sun-soaked brambles, dark plums, and wild blueberries along with Mediterranean herbs, anise, and leather. Medium-full-bodied, the tannins are round and plush, with concentration that is above the norm. A complex, hedonistic pour.

Food Pairing
