2020 Cadet de la Bégude Rouge

Domaine de la Bégude

IGP Méditerranée, France | $35.99

Organically Classic: This southern France blend of 35% Grenache, 35% Syrah, 25% Marselan, and 5% Mourvèdre hails from certified organic vineyards in the IGP Méditerranée appellation. Enjoy its youthful exuberance now, or let it age gracefully for years to come.

Thirst-Quenching Stopover: Historically, La Bégude served as a haven for travelers and pilgrims—'beguda' means ‘drink’ in Provençal. Now, the Roulleau family, owners of Chateau Dauzac in Margaux, meticulously tend to this historic estate and its vineyards, creating a modern-day refuge for visitors seeking exceptional wines.

Tasting Note

There's a real Mediterranean character to this wine, which is fitting of the IGP Méditerranée appellation. It shows dried dark cherries and black raspberries, but this wine is about much more than the fruit. There's an array of spices, with anise, cracked pepper, and fennel, alongside herbes de Provence, dried lavendar, and a gamey meatiness. It's medium-bodied and fresh, with supporting rustic tannins. You can imagine drinking carafe after carafe of this along the Mediterranean Sea. It's much more than a second wine, that's for sure.
