Paul Jaboulet 2020 Parallèle 45 Côtes-du-Rhône Blanc

2020 Parallèle 45 Côtes-du-Rhône Blanc

Paul Jaboulet

Rhône Valley, France | $26.99

The Halfway Point: A classic since 1950, Parallèle 45 is named after the 45th parallel, the circle of latitude marking the midpoint between the equator and the North Pole. It also passes over the cellars of Paul Jaboulet.

Classic for a Reason: This white Rhone blend of Viognier, Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, Clairette, and Marsanne comes from 40-year-old, organically farmed vines. Grown on clay limestone and round pebbles, it captures the true essence of the Rhone.

Tasting Note

Viognier leads this wine with a combination of ripe apricot, jasmine, and honeysuckle, alongside white peach, lemon, and wet stones. Viognier can be rich and unctuous, and I love this style of Rhône white blend for the crispy freshness that you get from varieties like Grenache Blanc without sacrificing texture. There's a lovely balance of fruit and savoury complexity, with just a touch of tertiary development after four years in bottle.
