Rimauresq 2024 Cru Classé Rosé

2024 Cru Classé Rosé

Le Domaine De Rimauresq

Côtes de Provence, France | $44.99

Long before “Rosé” entered the wine lexicon, ancient civilizations such as the Greeks and Romans produced wines lighter in colour than traditional reds. The ancient Greeks, who established settlements along the Mediterranean coast, including in what is now Provence, brought vine cuttings and early winemaking techniques. Their methods often involved shorter skin contact during fermentation or blending red and white wines, resulting in lighter-hued wines that can be seen as precursors to modern Rosé.

Rimauresq is among an exclusive group of eighteen estates in the Côtes de Provence appellation (a key subregion within the broader Provence wine area) awarded Cru Classé status in 1955. This classification was modeled loosely on Bordeaux’s 1855 ranking. During a time of rapid modernization and expansion in the wine industry, Cru Classé was created, to recognize and protect the region’s most consistently high-performing estates. The selection of estates was based on a combination of reputation, vineyard quality, historical performance, and cellar practices. Though the system was never expanded beyond its original eighteen, it remains a powerful marker of heritage and excellence. Today, Cru Classé continues to carry significant weight in export markets, positioning Rimauresq as a benchmark for age-worthy, structured Provençal Rosé.
