JoieFarm PTG 2023

2023 PTG

JoieFarm

Naramata Bench, Canada | $34.99

JoieFarm Winery has long been one of the defining voices of the Naramata Bench, known for a style that blends Old World inspiration with the bright, fruit-driven character of the Okanagan Valley. JoieFarm’s 2023 PTG fruit comes from three different Okanagan vineyards: JoieFarm’s Smethurst Vineyard on the Naramata Bench, Albrecht Vineyard also on the Naramata Bench, and JoieFarm’s Con Vida Vineyard on the Skaha Bench.

Smethurst Vineyard’s higher elevation moderates the most intense heat of the growing season while its southwestern exposure gives Pinot Noir and Gamay lots of sun. This means that the fruit from Smethurst Vineyard ripens slowly and evenly, preserving freshness alongside elegant fruit. Nearby, Albrecht Vineyard’s silty soils on a gentle slope, and its lake-cooled breezes create the perfect conditions for ripening Pinot Noir with elegance and clarity. Lastly, above Lake Skaha on the Skaha Bench, Con Vida Vineyard’s west-facing slopes with long afternoon and evening sun lead to Pinot Noir with darker fruit notes.

After a severe winter pushed back budbreak, the Okanagan’s 2023 growing season brought one of the warmest summers on record. This heat continued right into the fall with steady warm weather.

The Pinot Noir and Gamay were each fermented whole-berry for two weeks using a mix of ambient and selected yeasts. These ferments were then gently pressed and racked to neutral oak barrels to complete malolactic fermentation before spending 10 months in neutral barrels.

Joie Farm’s 2023 PTG recently took Double Gold at the 2026 Pacific Rim Wine Competition.

Tasting Note

Joie Farm’s 2023 PTG is easy to enjoy but far from simple. Lively yet focused, this PTG opens with juicy cherry, raspberry, blueberry, and blackberry, interwoven with violets, dark chocolate, black tea, and blood orange peel. There’s a gentle thread of acidity that provides tension and balance, leading to a long, lingering perfumed finish.

Food Pairing

With summer nearly here, our heads immediately go to a soy/ hoisin sauced stir fry with mushrooms for Joie Farm’s 2023 PTG. The sweet-savoury depth of soy and hoisin sauce will draw out the wine’s black tea and savoury notes, while the PTG’s bright acidity and vivid fruit keep the pairing lifted and vibrant. We recommend a light chill, especially in warmer weather.
