Three Sisters Winery Riesling 2023

2023 Riesling

Three Sisters Winery

Naramata Bench, Canada | $25.99

The name Three Sisters comes from the vineyard where it all began, and from the three sisters in both of the owners’ Matthew and Rebecca Mikulic’s families.

The 2023 vintage on the Naramata Bench unfolded through a dramatic growing season. Following an exceptionally cold winter, budbreak arrived later than usual. However, what began as a delayed season quickly shifted once summer arrived. Sustained heat accelerated vine growth, allowing vineyards to rapidly catch up.

By season’s end, 2023 had become one of the warmest growing years recorded in the region. The Naramata Bench, which typically sees between 1,350 and 1,650 Growing Degree Days (GDD), reached an impressive 1,815 GDD. Fortunately, the warmth continued into harvest under stable autumn weather.

In the winery, 20% of the wine was racked off its lees and aged in stainless steel barrels, adding structure and subtle texture. The remaining 80% was matured on its lees in stainless steel tanks, enhancing complexity and mouthfeel. A natural cold stabilization took place over the following Okanagan winter to preserve the wine’s bright aromatics and clean finish. The Three Sisters’ 2023 Riesling shows generous fruit expression and depth of flavour that’s defined this remarkable vintage.

Tasting Note

Lemon and green apple notes leap out of a glass of the Three Sisters’ 2023 Riesling. Dried citrus peel and a fine thread of petrol on the palate frame this fresh zippy wine.

Food Pairing

The 2023 Three Sisters Riesling’s bright lemon and green apple core makes it a natural match for oysters or to tame a spicy Thai green curry. The wine's savoury edge will also effortlessly carry a roasted chicken - add a lemon and herb compound butter to pick up on the citrus notes.
