Meyer Family Vineyards 2022 Steven’s Block Chardonnay

2022 Stevens Block Chardonnay

Meyer Family Vineyards

Okanagan Valley, Canada | $34.99

One of the top wineries in the Okanagan Valley since being established in 2006, Meyer Family produces small lot wines that express their unique terroir using traditional Burgundian methods. With a special emphasis on Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, Meyer Family crafts wines of place that are both elegant and expressive.

Stevens Block, named in honour of proprietor Janice Stevens-Meyer and her family, is part of Meyer's estate-farmed Old Main Road Vineyard on Naramata Bench. Nestled on the steepest slope and coolest part of the site, this block is planted on alluvial silt loam layered over clay loam soil, providing the ideal soil conditions for exceptional Chardonnay.

At the winery, only the free-run juice is used after a long, gentle whole-cluster pressing. Fermented naturally for six weeks in cool stainless steel, the wine is then aged on its lees for 10 months in older French oak barrels, after full natural malolactic fermentation to provide additional complexity and richness.

Tasting Note

Reflective of the moderate 2022 growing season, this Naramata Chardonnay is bright and citrusy, with an accent of yellow pear and flint. The use of older French oak barriques provides some creamy richness to the palate, while keeping the focus squarely on the fruit. It's beautifully balanced, with a precise, linear texture that leads to a long, refreshing, sapid finish. Chris Carson, the winemaker at Meyer, clearly knows how to coax the best from Okanagan Chardonnay.
