Laventura is the brainchild of South African winemaker Bryan MacRobert, who was raised in a farming family and has quietly been producing some of Spain's best value wines. Falling in love with a Riojan and the wines of Rioja, he quickly became fascinated with the region's distinctive terroirs and endless potential, prompting him to embark on his adventure with Laventura.
La Nave, meaning vessel in Spanish, is a classic blend of Garnacha, Tempranillo, and Mazuelo from old vines sourced from three sub-regions in Rioja: Rioja Oriental, Rioja Alavesa, and Rioja Alta. MacRobert meticulously selects small, diverse vineyard plots throughout the entire Rioja region and blends together the different soils, climates, and varieties to craft this wine.
Tasting Note
A natural fermentation in concrete keeps the crunchy red berry fruit in the foreground, while also giving a fineness to the tannins and accentuating the mineral texture that makes this wine so distinctive. Juicy strawberry and red cherry fruit are complemented by sweet spices and a savoury graphite character. This is a modern take on Rioja, and a compelling one at that.
