2022 Willamette Valley Pinot Noir

Stoller

Willamette Valley, Oregon, USA | $45.99

It was Bill Stoller who recognized the potential of the sloped, rocky terrain with low-yielding soil on his family farm. The property, originally purchased by Bill's father and uncle in 1943 for turkey farming, grew into one of Oregon's largest turkey operations. After it ceased operations in 1993, Bill acquired it with a vision to create a world-class vineyard.

Drawing on his experience at Chehalem, and with the assistance of Burgundian winemaker Patrice Rion and local vineyard experts, Bill confirmed that the property was perfect for top-quality Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. In 1995, Bill began planting 10 acres each of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Today, the vineyard spans 225 acres, with 70 percent dedicated to Pinot Noir.

Tasting Note

Harvested almost four weeks later than in recent years, the 2022 growing season produced balanced, age-worthy wines with a real sense of vibrancy – which is exactly what put Oregon Pinot Noir on the map in the first place. This wine shows ripe, chiselled red cherry and black raspberry fruit layered with sweet spices and a subtle earthiness. It's rich and supple, with bright acidity that carries through the fruit-laden finish.
