2020 Coyam

Emiliana

Colchagua Valley, Chile | $38.99

Emiliana Organic Vineyards, covering nearly 1,300 hectares of land in renowned wine regions such as Colchagua, Maipo, and Casablanca Valley, is the largest organic and biodynamic wine producer in the world. Founded by brothers Rafael and José Guilisasti, the winery began its conversion to a 100% organic and biodynamic cultivation in the late 1990s. This early transition was led by none other than Álvaro Espinoza, the legendary winemaker who introduced biodynamic viticulture to South America.

Álvaro believes that blends are the best way to express a sense of place. Coyam showcases the best wines he makes from the Los Robles estate in Colchagua. It’s a blend of Syrah and Carmenère, with the remaining 25% made up of Cabernet Sauvignon, Carignan, Garnacha, Mourvèdre, Petit Verdot, Malbec, and Tempranillo. First released in 2003, it was the winery’s inaugural organic wine and the first in Latin America to receive biodynamic certification from Demeter, Germany.

Tasting Note

This wine has a certain energy that maritime Chile imparts. The nose is layered with ripe blackcurrant, fresh Mediterranean herbs, olive, and subtle oak spice. It’s full-bodied, silky, and approachable, with elegant tannins and a long, fruit-driven finish. A well-balanced and expressive wine that stays true to its origins.

Food Pairing

Ideal to pair with pepper-crusted flank steak.
