Orofino 2020 Syrah

2020 Syrah

Orofino

Similkameen Valley, BC | $37.30

Since 2001, John and Virginia Weber have been making vineyard-driven wines in the Similkameen at their boutique strawbale winery. Few know the Similkameen better. They're honest wines that show a transparency consistent with John and Virginia’s minimalist winemaking philosophy. It’s all about producing vibrant, thirst-quenching wines that consistently overdeliver in value. Mission accomplished with their 2020 Syrah.

Tasting Note

There’s a wild edge to this old vine, single vineyard Syrah, which takes you to the rugged, rocky hillsides of the Similkameen. It's spicy, gamey, and stony, with a backing of herb-tinged dark berry fruit. The less-is-more winemaking really comes through here. Wild fermented. Cap managed by hand, with twice daily punch downs. 16 months in neutral French barrels. And it all comes in under 13.2% abv, which beguiles the weight and fruit intensity on display. It's hard to imagine a truer expression of Similkameen Syrah.

Food Pairing
