Mayhem Syrah 2025

2025 Syrah

Mayhem

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia | $31.99

Mayhem is a family project founded by siblings Terry Meyer Stone and JAK Meyer, along with their spouses, Andrew Stone and Janice Stevens. In 2023, Mayhem opened the doors to their new tasting room, located on the same site as Meyer Family Vineyards.

For twelve years, Andrew was the much-respected Vineyard Manager of Liquidity Wines, Arterra and Fort Berens Winery. With the growth of the business, Andrew decided to jump in full time with Mayhem.  While he continues to manage their home vineyards and connect with select quality-driven growers in the Okanagan Valley, you’re now more likely to find him hanging out in the tasting room.Winemaking is led by Ajay Chavan, who works with a relatively hands-on, low-intervention approach.

Following two severe winter freezes of 2023 and 2024, 2025 was a welcome return to normal production in the Okanagan. It was an early, even growing season that encouraged flavour development ahead of sugar accumulation. For Syrah, plenty of flavour without the jammy character that can come with overripe fruit.

Sourced from Gill Estate Vineyard, Mayhem’s Syrah emerges as something of a surprise from the 2025 vintage. Following significant losses of Syrah across the valley, Mayhem is one of the few Okanagan wineries to have made this varietal wine in 2025. Mayhem’s 2025 Syrah represents a lighter, more restrained interpretation. Fermented with 100% whole berries and matured for six months in seasoned French oak barriques, the focus is on purity, balance, and gentle extraction. 160 cases were produced.

Tasting Note

An elegant nose with red fruit and a lifted black pepper note. The palate is plush and refined, with silky tannins and bright acidity giving the wine a sense of shape without adding weight. The blue fruited mid-palate is layered with gentle spice and freshly cracked black that continues through the long warm finish.

Food Pairing

We suggest pairing Mayhem’s 2025 Syrah with grilled eggplant, late-season tomatoes, herbs and olive oil. The grilled eggplant brings out the Syrah’s savoury, peppery character without overwhelming its silky texture, while the tomatoes add acidity that complements its freshness. Finish with plenty of fresh herbs for some bright, late-summer zhuzh.
