Located in the southernmost part of Burgundy and bordering Beaujolais, the Mâconnais is the largest wine-growing region in Burgundy. Here, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir take centre stage. Though often overshadowed by the more renowned Côte d'Or, the Mâconnais offers wines of exceptional value.
Named after a creek that flows across their 12-hectare property in Davayé, Domaine De La Denante produces a small range of wines with a holistic approach. Their vineyards are largely worked by hand and cultivated with horses, reflecting the Domaine's commitment to biodynamic practices. The fermentations remain traditional, using wild yeasts, completed in a mixture of old oak, concrete, and stainless steel. With red wines in the Mâcon being the minority, this bottle offers a unique glimpse into Pinot Noir from southern Burgundy.
Tasting Note
The region’s relatively warm climate, at least compared to northern Burgundy and the Côte d'Or, results in greater potential fruit ripeness. However, the cooling influence of the nearby Monts du Mâconnais range preserves acidity, balancing ripeness with freshness. The result is a fruit-driven, fresh, and approachable Macon Rouge, with supple tannins that easily can be enjoyed with a light chill.
