The Quinta de Curvos estate has history going back more than four centuries with many legends that date back to its founding. Looking at the present day, this family-run business values tradition and innovation. As such, the estate has seen significant investment in modern equipment to commit to the future, in terms of the climate and in quality.
The vineyards occupy an impressive area of 21,000 hectares (over 51, 000 acres) and make up 15% of the national winegrowing area. This Alvarinho’s grapes are sourced under the Minho IGP, Protected Geographical Indication, which overlaps with the Vinho Verde region in northwest Portugal. With the major rivers and valleys running east to west, ocean winds are brought inland, exposing the entire region to the influences of the Atlantic Ocean. Alvarinho’s small, thick-skinned berries are ideal for this humid, Atlantic-influenced climate. The mostly granite-based soil (sometimes with schist or alluvium) adds a mineral backbone to the wine, reinforcing what this region and grape are famous for: freshness.
Tasting Note
Delicate floral aroma, along with notes of ripe tropical fruits. Mineral and full-bodied on the palate, with an excellent structure and complexity.
Food Pairing
Fatty fish, seafood dishes, and poultry or pork would all be excellent contenders. However, we’ll recommend a salad with fennel or apple and citrus segments to mirror the flavours and textured mouthfeel of this Alvarinho.
