Renzo Seghesio 2019 Barbera d'Alba

2019 Barbera d'Alba

Renzo Seghesio

Piedmont, Italy | $47.25

It’s only fitting that Mike first tried this wine at the dining room table of Renzo Seghesio. It’s a fantastic food wine that drinks like a Nebbiolo while still being true to Barbera. It makes for an interesting contrast to the Langhe Nebbiolo that was included in the June shipment. Can you tell we can’t get enough of Piedmont?

Renzo Seghesio is firmly entrenched in Barolo. Not only was he raised in Monforte d’Alba, one of its communes, but he was also the mayor of Monforte. Not a bad thing, considering how political wine can get.

Tasting Note

This pure-fruited Barbera shows crunchy red berries that are interwoven with spiced walnuts. Medium-full bodied, with bright acidity, there's real finesse here, with concentration that is well above the norm for Barbera d'Alba.
